| Hey everyone: The Week 1 schedule is posted. Go Make Your Picks now! Also, the Straight-Up picks feature is now ready. So you can submit picks both vs. the Spread and Straight-Up. There are easy links at the top of most pages to tell you which picks you're looking at and how to switch to the other set. Read the updated About the Site page for more info. For those folks that have been waiting, you can now run a Pickem pool (straight-up) if you want. Just set the Default view to Straight-Up (on the pool page or Poolmaster Menu) and remind your players they need to submit their Straight-Up picks each week. Let me know if it's confusing or if you have any comments / suggestions. It's obviously brand new. So I can make some tweaks if necessary. Good luck all! B-Man | ||
| ||
| Thanks Mean Mark and Underdawgz -- I appreciate your continued support season after season. By the way, I should have the Straight-Up pick features and first week schedule posted tomorrow. | ||
| ||
| B-Man Underdawgz will be covering the other $10 of your entry fee, so you're completely covered now. | ||
| ||
| B-Man I'll cover $50 of your entry fee as part of my annual donation to help with the hosting fees you have to pay for hosting this site. | ||
| ||
| Lock Clubbers Let's go ahead and set the entry fee at $60 for the 2010 Lock Club. Next year we'll talk about stepping it up a little bit more maybe, especially if they move it to an 18 game schedule in the next couple years or so. The deadline for getting in your payment is the deadline for getting in your pick for week 2, but no reason to wait that long. Here is my mailing address: Mark Ganson P.O. Box 82 Melville, LA 71353 Send cash if you like, but I'm not responsible if it gets lost in the mail. Checks must be in US Dollars and drawn on a US Bank. International players can contact me via e-mail to make other arrangements. | ||

| Doc I'm probably wrong about my prediction about the Giants finishing in last place in the NFC East. Like Mr Bill said, their defense will carry them to a better finish than that by itself. I'm ready to pencil in Washington for that spot. | ||
| ||
| Hi Mark, The thing that is worrying me the most thees past days is that Shaun O磆ara Our Center is out. Fact is that the only Center we have now is a Rookie from Ohio State. That could prove you right with your prediction of my team going into last place. Please say it aint so.lol Peace love health and happiness wishes Doc. Rolf. | ||
| ||
| Hi Rich & Eddie,just a note to let you know I'll be stopping by on Friday (9/3/10) to put in my donations for the year.See you then. Jimmydean | ||
| ||
| Doc After Favre threw that int in the nfc title game against the Saints I said right then that he'd probably be back because he'd not want to go out that way, with an int in his last pass as a Viking. Recall that his last pass as a Packer was an int and his last pass as a Jet was also an int. Better, in my opinion, to finish his last season on a team that doesn't even make the playoffs rather than go out with an int in such a big game as the last pass of your career. | ||

| I'm in again for the lock club. I'm good for up to a $100 entry fee. | ||
| ||
| Chris, I made it, thanks for the email. | ||
| ||
| I would like to be back in the lock club and I vote no more then 60 | ||
| ||
| Hello I would like to come back this year to the Lock Club, and 100 sounds good to me, its a long season! | ||
| ||
| After a couple of years off, I would like to be back in The Lock Club this year. I'd vote for no more than $60 on entry fee as well. | ||
| ||
| Hey Chris, I like the last name..Haven't meet another BEEMAN in the South Bay...besides direct Family | ||
| ||
| I think the pool should be no more than $60. Gotta keep it reasonable for everyone whose having a hard time with finances these days. | ||

| Hi Mark, Now I counted on exactly that happening. In an Interview Brett Favre said something to the affect that he took so much time to decide about coming back, because he did not want to go out the way he did, and that he was well aware that he put the standard way up there having had one of his best years in the NFL. To top that will be very hard. With that being said, and With those receivers missing the way we have known him to be in the past when he was in Green bay, he will have more INT磗 because his receivers won磘 be there to correct his mistakes. AP磗 threat will be reduced as the passing game is out of order. I know of the Rapid decline of performance at age 40, and you could see it as Brett was getting up after the Sack. Yes I know he is a Pro Athlete, but we are also comparing him to Pro Athletes Like a Mark Sanchez, When he gets thrown to the ground by Suh in that one arm style like he did to Colt McCoy last year, I see Brett getting nervous and hurrying a lot more than he would have at the beginning of last year. I am not buying that he is 100% fit with his ankle. This all leads to the Defense being on the Field a lot more than last year, most of the time that means that there are a lot more points scored against. That leads to the next consideration, last year the Vikes won 5 Games inside of 7 Points. If they would have lost those games (because of more INT磗 or lack of domination in the time of possetion.) they would have been 9 - 7, and that with their easy schedule last year. This year they have to go through the AFC East. I don磘 see them doing it. It is possible that they have a start as bad as 1 - 7, because alone in the firs 8 weeks they have The Saints, Dolphins, Lions, Jets, Patriots, Cowboys, the Packers, and the Cardinals. That would mean that they would have to win the rest of the Season to make the playoffs, with a rest schedule of Bears Packers Redskins Giants Lions Eagles and Bills. That may sound makable, but they have their bye week in week 4, So when all of the "late in the Season injuries" start There will be no chance that they can get a rest due to a bye week. All those factors are what I thought of when I downgraded their results for this year. Even though I actually like Brett Favre as a player. Peace Love health and happiness wishes, Doc. Rolf | ||
| ||
| Doc I wouldn't count out the Vikings just yet. Losing Rice was a big blow, obviously, and Harvin's migraine situation must also be troubling to them, but they still have All Day AP, Shiancoe, and Favre. Other guys are going to have to step up their game, which is what typically happens. As long as Favre doesn't take it on himself to try to do it all, they'll probably be just fine. | ||
| ||
| I have got to remember to preview my messages. Pertaining to Chicago I wanted to say that they too could end up ahead of the Vikes depending on how long all of their receivers stay injured. Peace love health and happiness wishes Doc. Rolf | ||
| ||
| Hi all preseason is not over yet and my picks for the NFC North are destroyed. After watching the Injury reports this morning they now look as follows. Green bay Detroit Vikes Chicago, and that is one heck of a close one I think that they two get the vikes it will be one heck of a close one. peace love health and happiness wishes Doc. Rolf | ||

| ||
| I'm in again for the LOCK CLUB. I vote for "C" $100. | ||
| ||
| Hi to all especially the Lock Club Members. First off I will be in again this year, unfortunately I can not convince Pat. I can磘 blame him seeing that he is 19 and has other things on his mind. (Parties and girls drivers License etc.) and that is ok by me. As far as the amount is concerned I feel the same way as Underdawgz. Any amount up to $100 is fine by me. I can磘 wait to get started. Peace Love health and happiness wishes Doc. Rolf | ||
| ||
| looking forward to another year in the Lock Club pool - my vote for entry $$ - any amount up to 100 | ||

| The first rule change up for discussion would be revising Rule 2) to reflect a change in entry fee from $50 to some other amount. We have played for $60 in the past. Cast your vote if you've been in the lock club in the past *and* plan to be in it again this year. Options are: a) $50 b) $60 c) $____ (write in amount) | ||
| ||
| For those interested in the Lock Club, which is now going into its umpteenth year without major controversy: Here are the tentative rules. We'll be discussing possible rule changes. I will post an address for the payments in a few days or so. 1) You must be 18 or older to enter. 2) Entry fee is $50.00 in US Dollars drawn on a US Bank. Don't send a check for funds drawn on a bank outside the US. DON'T FORGET TO WRITE YOUR USERNAME ON YOUR CHECK SO I'LL KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Contact me via e-mail and we'll see if we can make other arrangements. 3) We will distribute winnings to the top 3 players at 60%, 25%, and 15% of the total. 100% of all entry fees are distributed to the winners. 4) Each player makes 1 pick per week for each week of the regular season and each week of the playoffs, including the Superbowl game itself. The picks are against the spread using b-man's lines. You may also select an Over/Under pick based on the lines I will post on the board usually on Fridays. Should I forget to do so, you can use the lines from usatoday.com's odds page. Don't try to use any obviously invalid lines, not that anybody ever would do that. 5) There are 2 bonus picks -- an Upset of the Year Pick and a Superbowl Bonus Pick. The Upset pick must be an underdog in a game where the favorite is favored by the b-man by at least 7.5 or more points. The underdog must win straight up. The Superbowl Bonus Pick is made before the first playoff game kicks off. You must pick the eventual Superbowl winner straight up. You do not get a loss added to your record if you miss either or both of the bonus picks. 6) Each pick each week must be made here on this bulletin board before kickoff of that game. You can wait until before kickoff of the Monday Night game and pick that game if you like. If you don't make a pick for a week, you automatically get a loss for that week. You must abide by the b-man's rules for all of your posts. If b-man kicks you off the site because you can't follow his rules, you will be forfeiting your entry fee and it will *not* be refunded to you. 7) In the event of a tie in the records of 2 or more players, the tie breaker will be the overall ranking on this site for the year using b-man's point system. If there is still a tie, the money, if any, will be distributed evenly among those players. 8) I will be keeping track of the records for the Lock Club. If you disagree with my scoring or any other decision, simply post your disagreement. We will vote democratically on the issue. Majority rules. If the vote falls 50/50, my original decision will stand. 9) You may change your mind about your pick any time before kickoff of the game you eventually pick. You may not change a pick after kickoff of that game, however. It is legal to adjust your pick based upon what another player has done for strategic purposes, but you must specifiy a team for your pick. You cannot say "I'll take the opposite of whatever so and so takes." You must name your team with your pick. Likewise, it is also okay to switch your pick at the last minute if you suspect another player is shadowing your picks, but you must make any switches before kickoff of the game you select. All games are assumed to have kicked off at their officially scheduled kickoff time, but in case of controversy we can the official kickoff time via the gamebook at nfl.com. All picks are assumed to have been made at the date and time stamped on each post by the b-man's bulletin board software, which might or might not necessarily be perfectly in synchronization with the official time used by the NFL. The moral: don't wait until the last second to get your pick in. 10) To join the Lock Club, you must post your intentions to join here on this board. You must get your pick in for Week 1 here on this board. You must get your check in to me and it must be postmarked by no later than the deadline for making your pick for Week 2. Should you miss week 1 and still wish to join, you may join, but you will get a loss for the missed week 1 pick. I will be posting a mailing address on this board in the coming days. 11) To make it easier for me and so I don't miss your selection, please put all picks in BOLD lettering using the <b> and </b> HTML tags. Also, don't say something like "The Saints will whip the Chargers this week." Say, instead, something like "I'll take the Saints as my Lock Of The Week." I can read minds, but I'm not very good at it. So, make your pick as unambiguous as possible. 12) A player may elect to buy up to, but not more than, 2 slots in the Lock Club. He must create a new username on this site and submit the 2nd slot picks under that new username. Tie-breaker for that new username will be that new username's overall standings on this site, so be sure to submit picks each week under the new username, too. | ||

| Hi guys and gals, Well here we are picking the looser for a change. That will be just as hard as picking the winners of each division this year. Fact is that in some Divisions there might be a game and point difference between the winner and the looser of that division. Well here I go posting it how I see it ending up. After everything is over from first to last. NFC East Giants Dallas Philly Washington Why? First off There is too much pressure on Dallas to win it all this year. They have always choked under pressure. I think that they will loose against their local rivals (Houston) gives up one against the Giants, and one against The Vikes. Second The Giants have a far better Defense than I expected. Eli磗 head will be OK by the end of pre-season.Third off Philly and Washington will stumble over teams that should be worse, but excel because they think that they have a shot at a win, and guess what they will have a shot at it and take it. I see too much coach and player BS potential inside of these two teams. AFC East I hate to write this The Patriots The Jets The Dolphins who磗 left? oh yeah the Bills. This will be the toughest division of all. every other division will have two teams that are beaten good at the bottom. This one will only have one. I predict that they will go an amazing 1 - 15 if not 0 - 16. the Pats. although having shown that they are beatable, will pull it out by either a game or points. That is how close it will be. The same will be between second and third place. 13 - 3 or 12 - 4 is how I磎 expecting all three of the top teams in the AFC East to go. Even as a giants fan, I do hope that the jets get into the playoffs, and put up the AFC contender in the Super Bowl this year. The NFC North Packers Vikings Lions Bears Now it could be that I am proven wrong on this one, but it can be done by the Lions. The Lions is one of those teams that I was thinking about when I was reviewing my picks for the NFC East. I think that they have the stuff to get through both Philly and the Redskins. The Defense has improved and they have a few back on offense that were injured last year. let磗 see what happens. The Vikes receivers are collapsing in practice, The O - line that was so hot about Brett coming back just let everyone but the referee through last night. I don磘 think that they will be a contender again this year. p.s. I know how much the Performance sinks inside of one year after 40. huge difference. Green Bay will be better than last year. the hmmh mmh hmmm mhhh. Sorry B-woman, but unfortunately I don磘 see them making an improvement. I see them still rebuilding this year, and hopefully coming back into contention next year. AFC North The Ravens The Steelers The Browns The Bengals Why? The Ravens are solid. Nothing more to say about that. The Steelers without Ben for how many games? Not even close to an adequate penalty for him in my mind. The Browns have improved a little more, and The Bengals will see that bey the time that they get to game 2 of the season, TO will be in Tears, Ochocinnco, will be out of commission, Thus destroying the running game, and the Cincinnati season. Somehow this season is just going against all the friends I have stateside. At least the Bman and Mean Mark should be happy when I get to the NFC South. lol Greetings go out to the Music Majors at Ohio Wesleyan University at this point. Well let创s get to the gusto NFC South The Saints The Panthers The Falcons The Buccaneers Not much to say about that order. Almost like last year The AFC South The Colts The Texans The Jaguars The Titans I磍l leave this one without comment or I won磘 get finished today. NFC West 49ers Seehawks Rams Cardinals I still see this as being the worst Division of the NFL. Against what I thought would happen with Mr. Singaltery at the helm, I think that they have made progress in their program. The rams may win game or two more, but let磗 face it this is just a lottery of looser磗. Who will be worst? The cards, because they gave away their best players. Last but not least my picks for the AFC West. The Broncos The Chargers The Raiders The Chiefs I don磘 think that this is the worst scenario. I see Dallas actually winning the wildcard to loose in the next round. My crystal ball tells me that the Jets will make the AFC Contention, with one hell of a lot of Broadway theater to go along with it. The Saints will finally break the post Super-bowl Jinx and reappear. If everyone stays healthy, which is doubtful the Super-bowl should be Saints over the Jets 45 - 41. peace love health and happiness wishes Doc. Rolf | ||

| mean mark your right that guy cruz looked real good.Eli took one heck of hit to,they said today he could not put his helmet on. I do not like to see anyone get hurt like that.That could have been a lot worse.The eagles I think will need a year to get everything together,they do have a lot of talent.It looks like it will be a great year of football | ||
| ||
| I saw part of the Dallas / Oakland game. They (the Dallas home announcers) were saying that Darius Heyward-Bay (or is it Bey?) was taken 7th overall in the draft in 2009, by the Raiders, and caught a grand total of 9 passes all season. How do you spell bust? They obviously missed big with JaMarcus Russell and now apparently with Heyward-Bay. It's hard to overcome so many misses at the top of the draft like that. Not only are you wasting extremely valuable draft picks, but also look at the salary being expended on unproductive players. On top of that they're giving huge contracts to a kicker and a cornerback, huge relative to what players in those positions are typically paid around the league. Al Davis was once one of the most respected figures in the league. Maybe he should bring in Matt Millen as a consultant or something. | ||
| ||
| b-man -- yeah, Tebow to me should move to #2 on the depth chart, which is where he should have been all along, if they are going to use him in the "wildhorse" even if Quinn is in reality the 2nd string quarterback. That touchdown was a thing of beauty. Out of the 96 1st to 3rd string quarterbacks on 32 rosters, how many would have scored right there? That guy brings a load when he runs the football. mr bill -- you make some great points about the Giants. Did you see that guy Victor Cruz and the game he had for them against the Jets? One guy emerging like that can be the difference in a season for a time, similar to Miles Austin for your Cowboys and the way he emerged from obscurity last season. Obviously, it's just one game and a preseason game at that, so it's too early to nominate Cruz for the hall of fame just yet, but still it's something I'm sure that has a lot of Giants fans fired up. As to the Eagles, I really think they'll be fine with Kolb at quarterback and with the young talent they have on offense. | ||
| ||
| Mean Mark I agree with all but 2 AFC East - Bills AFC West - Chiefs Raiders the Raiders AFC South - Jaguars AFC North - Steelers NFC East - Giants as much as I would like that, they have to much on defense,that will keep them in games I think phil NFC West - Rams NFC South - Bucs NFC North - Bears I cant believe that Detroit will do better then the Bears Now the real tough one will be to pick the winners.There is going to be a lot of tight races this year AFC east and north should be very tight same with NFC east and north should be very tight Saints should walk away with the south San Francisco should take the west San Diego should walk away with the west Indianapolis should have the south but Tennessee and Houston are very close to taking that away Thats why they play the game Injury's could change everything | ||
| ||
| I thought Tebow did well, especially compared to Brady Quinn. That should officially move him up to #2, where he has to be anyway on gameday if the Broncos want to use him in special situations. As you say, Orton is the starter and he should give them the best chance starting out the season. Was it just me or did Tim look even bigger than last season? He looked like a linebacker on the field and I'm sure he felt like one to the defenders on his TD run. Dude's been working out... | ||
| ||
| It's probably too early, but I thought it would be fun to try to predict the last place finishers in each division, and the overall "winner" of the first pick in the 2011 draft. AFC East - Bills 'nuff said AFC West - Chiefs (with dishonorable mention to Raiders) AFC South - Jaguars (hello Los Angeles?) AFC North - Steelers (you have got to be freakin' kiddin' me!) NFC East - Giants (sorry Doc) NFC West - Rams (miserable season for Bradford) NFC South - Bucs (but Panthers could make a run) NFC North - Bears (say goodbye, Lovie "Rex is my quarterback" Smith?) The Buffalo Bills are "on the clock" for the 2011 draft. The "easy" picks are Rams, Jaguars, and Bills. I'm going out on a limb with the Steelers pick and I'm going to probably look very foolish with it, but remember the Browns did finish strong at the end of 2009, and I think Delhomme will be a marked upgrade to what they had at quarterback in recent years. (Didn't Derek Anderson throw 3 INT's in a game that propelled him into the starting position over Brady Quinn last year?) | ||
| ||
| I saw Tebow's debut against the Bengals. I thought he looked good -- poised and comfortable. There was a dropped pass that really hurt him. They showed his stats in college - 88 TD's versus 16 INT's (wikipedia says 15 INT's), a phenomenal ratio, and good enough for a 120+ passer rating if using the NFL method. The scramble for the touchdown at the end shows you his versatility and threat as a running quarterback in the redzone. I expect they'll use him in a version of the "wildhorse" this season, which could provide some nice highlights for sportscenter. Orton is more polished and should be the starter though. | ||
| ||
| Hi Mark, If Brett is not ok than the vikes games are winnable. Don创t thell the B-lady but I think that those games can also be won. Do not overestimate the Eagles and the Redskins. Those games can also be winable granted that they stay healthy. The Bills clearly. Like I thought out loud, with suh putting pressure on the Qb磗, the secondary has a better chance at making big plays. The running game will get going, thus giving Stafford a better chance with his passing game. They could be a dark horse this year. Let创s get all the pat fans going awall, but They are beatable. that was proven last year. especially when the D-line gets pressure on Tom. Miami could also get beat. They will however need to step it up at least two notches. Let创s see what happens. peace love health and happiness wishes Doc. Rolf | ||
| ||
| Doc, We'll see how well the Lions do. 9+ wins would be a monumental achievement for them, especially considering they have 4 games against the NFC East and 4 games against the AFC East, not to mention the 4 games against the Packers and Vikings. How many of those 12 games will they win? You figure the Bills will be a winnable game, but aside from that the rest will be tough matchups for them. I do like Stafford, and if he can stay healthy all year (a very big "if") they should at least be able to score a few points. | ||
| ||
| Wow is that a lot of Glass on that ring Mark! lol Just kidding those Rings were more than deserved! Well here we go the first game has been played. Pre Season that is. It just shows that there is a trend going on. A lot of players are getting a lot older. At least they are looking a lot older. Take To for instance, he caught two passes, but common. not really worth the mention. Where was old man ochosinco (I hope I spelled that wrong.);-) Yes Dallas won. A cool Stat came out on Mondays Sport Nation. Only 34% of the people think that Dallas will get to the Super Bowl. I am amongst them. Let磗 face it One post season win doesn创t get you far. I wish that I could get HBO over here cause I would be checking out that Hard Knox with the Jets. Alone for the Rex Ryan comments it would be worth it. Wow typing has become rusty over the last year. As to Revis I think he should get his butt into camp pronto. Lets face it he has 2 years left on his Contract. If he thinks that he has to put his head through the brick wall, than so be it. Bench him, don创t let him go to another team and let him sour for One and a half years, and trade him just before his contract expires to a team that is at the bottom of the heap at that point in time. Maybe if a team Front office has the Guts to do what is right at the pro level this Super Star syndrome in the NFL would stop. Talking about Super Stars in the NFL I refuse to speculate if the Starting QB of the Minnesota Vikings will come back before the first game or whatever. I am looking forward to the opening of the New Giants Stadium. Even if it is now called the new Meadowlands Stadium. It has got to be better than that poc in Dallas. lol. At least it is still a real Stadium where you watch the Action on the field more than on the TV set over the field. On another Note. Watch for the Team that has been down for Decades to come out of the slump and be over .500 this year. Who do I mean? Yep Detroit fans get up and wake up. With healed ACL创s in the Backfield and Suh namies in the Defense getting pressure in up front so that the Secondary doesn磘 need to cover for ten minutes a play, I think will be improving more than just a great deal. Denver has my Fantasy QBs since I didn磘 get my first choices, yes I will go with the Rookie! I have the Bmans Alumni. Brother T-bow. a cool hazing by the way. As the coolest Pig in the buisiness tends to say. Eh bid eh eh bide eh Thats all folks! Peace Love health and happiness wishes Doc. Rolf |
